Federal authorities have dropped their demand for records from a library computer, but not without warning the librarians who refused to release them that under other circumstances their failure to cooperate "could have increased the danger of terrorists succeeding." [Associated Press story on Yahoo]
ShadowMonkey Comment: Like many people, I'm a little torn on this one.... On one hand, I do think the federal government should be investigating possible use of public facilities for communication by terrorists. On the other hand, federal investigators have shown their willingness to disregard Fourth Amendment privacy protections in their zeal to conduct investigations. I mean, come on, you J. Edgar Hoovers! ...get a warrant, not one of these ridiculous "national security letters." -sm
