Update #2: A message from a ShadowMonkey reader pointed us to the video page of WSB-TV news in Atlanta , on which video about this story is available (use the video search feature; search for "Speeding"). While acknowledging that Officer Perrone has asked that the arrest warrant application be dropped, the report notes that Lee and Teresa Sipple have received a notice from a private law firm telling the couple to cease-and-desist from interfering with his ability to earn a livelihood. This, the reporter notes, has led the Sipples to believe that they could be facing a lawsuit from Perrone if they continue to complain about his speeding. (See below for contact information for contact information for the Kennesaw Police Department, for use in letting the department know your thoughts on the matter.) -sm [5:03 PM ET, Feb. 19]
In a nation of free people, those in positions of authority need to be reminded that they derive their power by the consent of the people. They also need to be held accountable. Our biggest ShadowMonkey cheer goes out to Lee and Teresa Sipple of Barstow County, Georgia, for catching a local police officer regularly speeding through their neighborhood. Now, though, in an idiotic and power-hungry act, Officer Richard Perrone has filed a warrant affidavit seeking to have the Sipples arrested for harassing him.
From media reports: So, Officer Perrone thinks that complaints about his actions to the police department constitute harassment?!? Officer Perone: you are a public servant! If members of the public are unhappy with your performance, what should they do? Tremble in fear and bow down to lick your boots? "Ooh, a police officer... please don't arrest me, Mr. Officer. I won't say nothin' to no-one." Here's hoping that Officer Perrone loses his public position. You can let the Kennesaw Police Department know your thoughts about this matter by contacting them at:
